Mother Hassana Sabiu and daughter Qamariya abandon newborn to die in waste bin

A mother, Hassana Sabiu and her daughter, Qamariya Ismail, who reportedly threw a new born baby girl delivered by the daughter in dust bin, have been apprehended by the Katsina State Police Command.

CP Usman Abdullahi, the State Commissioner of Police, who disclosed this, said the pair plotted and threw the baby, whose lifeless body was later found at the dust bin at Madugu House along Yahaya Madaki way, Katsina state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gambo Isah who spoke on behalf of the CP said the mother and daughter’s secret was revealed by neighbours, who traced the baby to the daughter they knew was pregnant and was later arrested. He said upon her arrest and interrogation, Qamariya confessed that her mother assisted her to throw the baby inside the garbage bin.

According to the Police, “on July 31 at about 4p.m., a dead female new born baby was found inside a dust bin at Madugu House along Yahaya Madaki way, Katsina state. Investigation was later carried out and the abandoned dead baby was however, traced to one Qamariya Ismail ‘f’ aged 25yrs old of Sabuwar Kasuwa qrts Katsina whom her neighbours knew was having illicit pregnancy.

He said: “The suspect confessed that her mother, one Hassana Sabiu ‘f’ aged 45yrs of the same address, helped her threw the baby inside the said Garbage-Can. Investigation into the case is still ongoing.”
