Mourinho Describes Ajax As Naive After Loss To Tottenham

Jose Mourinho has accused Dutch giants, Ajax of naivety after their Champions league crash to North London club, Tottenham.

Ajax ambitions of getting to the finals at Madrid where they will be poised to lock horns with Liverpool were shattered after Tottenham staged an unimaginable comeback to overturn a 3-0 deficit and progress to the finals of the competition on away goals rule.

Mourinho criticized the Dutch giants for playing the second half like they were playing Vitesse in the Eredivise suggesting that Ajax had taken the match with levity.

“Ajax deserve all the credit for that and all the admiration of people like us who love football, and we give them the credit they deserve.

“But football is a sporting battle and in battles you need strategy and to win matches, especially special matches, for special matches you need sometimes not to be tied to your philosophy”, he said.

He stressed that sometimes clubs have to go against their philosophy to get the job done.

The Portuguese gaffer opined that he thought the team had achieved a level of maturity but that their showings in the second half showed that there was still naivety in the team.

He described it as a simple case of philosophy losing against strategy.

“They showed in the second half that there is still naivety in that team, and I think that the philosophy lost against the strategy”

He criticised Ajax for not keeping balance at the back and playing like it was a group phase game or another routine Eredivise game against a team of Vitesse stature.

Ajax became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the competition having played three qualifying rounds and humbling current holders, Real Madrid and winning the hearts of many in their thrilling victory over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus.

Louis Van Gaal who had guided the Dutch giants to Champions League victory in 1995 was also critical  of the way Ajax had played.
