New Tottenhan manager, Jose Mourinho has played down the need to being in new players in history first press conference for the club.
The Portuguese boss insists that he’s happy with the current crop of players at his disposal amidst rumours linking the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Gareth Bale to a move to the London stadium.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager has shoved aside suggestions that he would need to make wholesale changes to the Lilywhites squad. He highlights the fact that the current players at the club are the best gift he could get.
Mourinho was announced as manager of Tottenham on Wednesday following the sack of Mauricio Pochettino only a day before, owing to his disappointing start to the season.
Despite having a surprise run to the Champions League final last term, the Lilywhites have won only three of their 12 opening games of the season, a run which has condemned them to 14th position on the Premier League standings.
This has inadvertently led to suggestions that Mourinho could be out for all the signing of a host of players, with Bruno Fernandes the latest to be linked with a move to Spurs.
Real Madrid winger, Gareth Bale has also been linked with a move to North London, with reports touting him as a possible January signing for Mourinho but the Portuguese boss insists he’s happy with the squad he met on ground.
The former Manchester United boss told reporters:
“The best gift are the players who are here. I don’t need new players. I just need to get to know these ones better.
“I know them well but you never know them well enough until you meet them.
“I told the players I came here because of them. I tried to buy some for different clubs and some I didn’t even try because you know how difficult it was.”
