N90b FIRS Fund: We Will Continue to Pray for You, CAN Backs Osinbajo

  • CAN president calls on Nigerians to pray for Osinbajo.
  • FIRSdescribes allegation as baseless and spurious.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) backed Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo over the N90 billion allegation levelled against him by a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Timi Frank.

Frank, a former spokesman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) had alleged that the Osinbajo collected N90 billion from the Federal Inland Revenue (FIRS) to fund the 2019 election.

The Vice President had already instituted a case against Frank over the allegation. A Nigerian newspaper, Vanguard had to also apologize to the Vice President for not deleting the story after it emerged that there was no evidence to back up Franks’s claim.

Speaking with newsmen on Friday in Abuja,  CAN President, Reverend Samson Ayokunle said that the church and all Nigerians were proud of the Vice President and would continue to pray for him.

Nothing that the Vice President had declared that there was no iota of truth in the allegation, the CAN President urged Nigerians not to toy with the innocent that are faithfully serving the nation, adding that the whole country would rise up to fight for him.

Osinbajo had also alleged that some people are plotting against him and he was ready to provide himself, declaring that he is ready to waive his immunity in order to be investigated and prosecuted.

While noting that for there to be an allegation, there must evidence, he said the country is facing serious challenges and “we must stay together to fight the challenges and we must overcome”.

It could be recalled that the FIRS had issued a statement recently, dismissed the allegations, describing it as baseless and mischievous.

The FIRS also threatened legal action against Frank, asking him to withdraw the allegation and apologize to the Vice President.
