Naomi Osaka Crashes Out Of Third Round Of 2019 French Open

Naomi Osaka, top seed in the Women’s tournament and winner of 2018 US and Australian Open has succumbed to a third round defeat in the hands of Katerina Siniakova after barely scraping past rounds 1 and 2.

The Japanese star is yet to be a clay court maven as she is yet to win any title on the floor where she might still be figuring out the footwork.

Anyways the defeat to Katherina, 6-4, 6-2 defeat on a hot, sun-drenched day on the Suzanne Lenglen Court was still a significant upset.

Although, Osaka had defeated the unseeded Katerina 6-4, 6-0 in their previous meeting on a hard court which remains her happiest hunting grounds, she failed to stage a repeat of the proceedings that had happened in this same time in Doha last year.

This time it happened on red clay and Naomi was caught up in the middle of it. The Japanese star no doubt had a better firepower but Siniakova played an incredible match overall by varying her tactics and extending rallies with her fine defense.

It was hardly a matter of Siniakova’s cleverly executed game plan and fighting spirit, it was rather a consequence of Osaka’s numerous unforced errors.

The 21 year old Japanese made a number of unforced errors by the bunch from the baseline, repeatedly striking the net cord with her huge groundstrokes and service returns. In the end, the world number 1 was missing by much larger margins as Siniakova, the No. 1 ranked doubles player, reeled off the final five games to close out the match and put herself in the fourth round of the French Open for the first time.

Siniakova looks like she has the Roland Garros well tucked in under he sleeves after winning the doubles title here last year with her compatriot Barbora Krejcikova.

Osaka will now switch her focus to upcoming Wilbkedon tournament.
