NASS Leadership: Osinbajo Fails to Convince Ndume Stepdown for Lawan

– Ndume says he is not stepping down for Lawan

– Osinbajo fails to convince him to withdraw his ambition

The lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume has refused to stepped down despite reportedly being told by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo to do so for Ahmed Lawan.

Lawan appeared to be the party’s choice for the next Senate President’s seat while Femi Gbajabiamila was endorsed for the House of Representatives speaker’s seat.

Ndume, who declined to speak with the newsmen when he arrived at the Vice-President’s office for a meeting on Monday did the same on his way out.

But when asked by State House correspondents if he had agreed to withdraw from the race, he couldn’t help replying: “Me? Step down”? I am still consulting.”

When also reminded that he was said to be opposition bride, he also replied, “Me that is regarded as an enemy by opposition?

From the look of things, after the meeting with the vice president, it is obvious that Ndume is not given hope on the Senate President’s ambition when the ninth National Assembly is inaugurated in June.

All efforts the All Progressives Congress (APC) made to tell Ndume to withdraw his ambition for Lawan has been rebuffed by the former Senate Leader.

Even the APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu, failed, while Bono Governor, Governor Kashim Shettima stylishly avoided being caught in Maiduguri for a meeting with visiting pro-Lawan senators over the weekend.

In a bid to avoid what happened in 2015 where the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got the Deputy Senate seat leading to the emergence of Ike Ekweremadu after the incumbent Senate President, Bukola Saraki enter an alliance with PDP senators to emerge leader of the National Assembly against the party’s wish, it is hoped that the Presidency will quickly put its house in order to have a National Assembly leadership that will make its work easier.
