Newcastle United vs Manchester United-Post Match Report
Hello peeps! Remember our 4-1 prediction for the match at the St. James Park? Oh well! It was a win for Manchester United and more importantly a clean sheet. Ole! Ole!! ball were the screams and shouts that filled St. James’s Park. It didn’t matter that the Red devils weren’t playing at home, they just couldn’t hide their joy and faith in new manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The first 45 minutes of the match were rather uneventful. There were chances aplenty but none was going to get in between the sticks. However, a Rashford attempt in the first 45 minutes almost made the difference. Manchester United had netted their opposition inside 10 minutes in two of their last three games. But it wasn’t meant to be! Definitely not here! Infact, Manchester United haven’t won a game here since a match in 2013. Dubravka saved a brilliant 30yard freekick taken by Marcus Rashford. Conversely, it was Ghana International, Christian Atsu who forced a save from David de Gea. The visitors were not finding it easy against the Magpies as they did against other opponents in their last three games.

Ole! Ole!! Ole!!!
It was however events after the half-hour mark that made the 90-minutes worth the watch. Hahahahaha! I could literarily imagine the United Caretaker manager perform an African ritual to invoke his super-sub spirit. As a matter of fact, OGS as fondly called was well renowned for his impact as a super-sub in his 11-year stint as a player at Manchester United.
Two second-half goals inspired by OGS substitutes in Sanchez and Lukaku made the difference. Although, seven of United’s previous 12 goals under Solskjaer had come in the first half, it wasn’t until the 64th-minute that the deadlock was broken. A freekick by Marcus Rashford was spilled by Dubravka with Romelu Lukaku poking home from inside the six-yard box only 38 seconds after his introduction. Welcome to the bigs, junior!
Rashford made it a comfortable win after a sweeping move involving Lukaku and Sanchez had provided him with a comfortable chance. There’s no way he could have missed. 2-0 it was for the visitors
On the other hand, Newcastle United woes have continued. The Magpies have failed to score in their ninth league game this season. Rafael Benitez’s side have managed only 15 top-flight goals this term. More worrying for the manager is that they have come out of this match still without a goal after drawing 14 shots.
The win has pushed United up to within six points off 4th-placed, Chelsea. Solskjaer with this win became only the second manager after Sir Matt Busby to win his first four league games in charge.
