Newcastle vs. Manchester United – EPL January 02, 2019 Preview and Scores

Match Preview

Manchester United travel to Tyneside on Wednesday night, looking to make it four wins out of four since the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Rafa Benitez’s men will head into the game knowing that a win against a rejuvenated United side will give them a huge confidence boost.

Newcastle United

Rafa Benitez certainly knows one or two things about playing a United team. Newcastle, under the tutelage of the Spaniard, have an impressive record against the Red Devils. For example, they have come out tops in each of their last four home games against United.

That includes a sterling performance in the corresponding fixture last season which saw the Magpies see off a strong United side 1-0 in February.

Newcastle, who find themselves languishing in 15th on the league table, will be looking to hand Solskjaer his first taste of defeat since taking over the reins at Old Trafford. Consequently, they will be looking forward to doing that.

An unlikely win for Rafa’s men could see them leap-frog Crystal Palace into 14th on the league table.

Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s return to Manchester United has sparked a resurgence at Old Trafford with players like Rashford, Martial and most notably, Pogba finally finding their feet.

Paul Pogba, has been in top form in recent weeks, scoring four goals and chipping in with two assists in his last three games. He has been deployed on the left of a three-man midfield and has been phenomenal for the Red Devils.

Solskjaer has stressed his desire to play attacking football and will be expecting his side to go all out for a win against the Magpies.

Team News

Eric Bailly is suspended for the game after seeing red in Sunday’s win against Bournemouth.

Marcus Rashford also picked up a slight injury to his groin in the same match and is a major doubt for the game at St. James’ Park.

On the other hand, Newcastle will be without the services of Federico Fernandez and Ciaran Clark.

Possible starting lineups

Newcastle: Dubravka; Yedlin, Schar, Lascelles, Dummett, Ritchie; Perez, Shelvey, Diame, Murphy; Rondon.

Man United: De Gea; Young, Jones, Lindelöf, Shaw; Ander Herrera, Matic, Pogba; Lingard, Rashford, Martial.

Scores Prediction

Newcastle 1-4 Man United

I think Man United have enough quality to outclass the Magpies, with Pogba and Rashford getting in among the goals supposing Rashford plays.
