Nigeria Decides: INEC reacts to malfunctioning card readers in Lagos and other places

– INEC has reacted to malfunctioning smart card readers in Lagos State and some other places during the ongoing Governorship and State Assembly election

– The Electoral body made it known that the election will not be suspended rather solutions will be provided

According to a report, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has reacted to the malfunctioning card readers in Lagos State and some other polling units.

The Electoral body in a statement via it national commissioner, Mr. Festus Okoye in Abuja today, made it known that the malfunctioning smart card readers will not affect the election.

He made it known that the electoral body will proffer solutions to the challenges.

According to an earlier report, voting was suspended at the polling unit of the All Progressive Congress APC Governorship candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Ikoyi area of Lagos State after some card readers were malfunctioning and didn’t accredit some voters.

Mr. Festus Okoye in his statement declared that the faulty card readers will be restored as the election will continue at the affected polling units.

The National Commissioner in his statement said:

We have heard of the Card readers malfunctioning in some polling units but most polling units have functioning readers. But wherever there are challenges we have the capacity to resolve these issues immediately

“We appeal to voters to be patient and have confidence with security agencies as we have trained technicians to sort out the pocket of challenges with Smart card readers.

“We are doing our best to make sure this election surpasses all challenges and not suspended.”

However, a new report has made it known that the APC Lagos State Governorship candidate Babajide Sanwo-Olu has casted his vote some minutes ago.
