Man Nabbed Over Alleged Fraud

A 37-year-old man, Tope Olusanya, was on Tuesday brought before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged fraud.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the accused committed the offence in the New Modern School area of Ado-Ekiti.

Okunade said that the accused fraudulently obtained N300, 000 from one Racheal Balogun, on the pretext to dig a borehole for her, but failed to do so.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 421 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.


Gospel Artiste Denies Defiling Toddler

An Edo State based gospel artist, Mr. Anthony Okhoria, aged 49, who was arrested for allegedly defiling a nine-year old girl, has denied the allegations.

Anthony who was paraded at the Edo Police headquarters denied having carnal knowledge of the girl and said it was the victim’s mother and sisters that attempted to seduce him. It should be noted that the alleged victim was a daughter of his tenant.

He said the woman and her children tried severally to seduce him to sleep with them so as not to pay for accommodation again but he refused.


Truck Crushes Bicycle Rider

A truck conveying cement to Warri, Delta State has crushed one Musa Abduramah to death at Evbukhu Junction along Sapele Road in Benin City.

Musa was riding his bicycle with which he used to sell empty sacks of cement when a vehicle knocked him down.

He was said to have fallen on the road while the truck driver that was trying to park properly, crushed him to death.


Man Jailed Eight Years For Duping Chinese Of $222,633

An Igbosere High Court in Lagos has sentenced a businessman, Chike Obiakor, to eight years imprisonment for defrauding a Chinese manufacturer, Davis Jin Guoshi, of $222,633.

Justice Sendoten Ogunsanya convicted Obiakor and his firm CNC Industries Ltd of obtaining the sum under false pretence from Guoshi, the Managing Director of a luggage manufacturing firm, Shanghai Sumlo, in 2012.

She sentenced Obiakor to one-year imprisonment for stealing, and seven years for obtaining money by false pretence.

The sentences will run concurrently, meaning that Obiakor will spend seven years in jail.


Truck Driver Kills Two In Anambra

Two persons on Tuesday lost their lives, while no fewer than seven shops were reduced to rubbles after a trailer veered off the road and rammed into some shops along old Enugu-Onitsha road, Anambra State.

The incident was said to have occurred directly opposite the National Open University of Nigeria, Abagana.

By-standers who witnessed the incident alleged high speed and possible intoxication on the part of the driver, who is currently in police custody.


Presidential Candidates Back INEC’s Guidelines

A month to the presidential election, Forum of Presidential Candidates, on Tuesday threw its weight behind the guidelines released last Monday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The candidates who said the released guidelines was a reflection of series of meetings between the political parties and INEC, cautioned stakeholders against causing any tension that may lead to violence before, during and after the elections.

Part of the issued guidelines are barring collation officers from making or receiving telephone calls during ballot collation and also simultaneous accreditation and voting and mandatory use of Smart Card Readers (SRC).


Atiku Promises 40 Percent Youth Inclusion In His Cabinet

Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says if he emerges victorious at the polls, 40 percent of his cabinet will go to women and youth.

He promised to appoint a minister of youth who would be less than 30 years.

Atiku said “Forty percent of my government will be youth. It is a promise. I will not break it. My minister of youth will be less than 30 years,”

Atiku said he intends to create jobs for the youth by lowering tax rates and industrial tariffs for the private sector.


New Police Boss Vows To Tackle Security Challenges

President Buhari Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday decorated the new Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammad Adamu, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Speaking after his decoration by the President, Adamu thanked Buhari for considering him worthy to be the next Inspector-General of Police.

He pledged to tackle the nation’s socio-political and security challenges, particularly the problems of violent crimes like armed robbery, kidnapping and abduction.

On the forthcoming general elections, Adamu also said he was going to build up on the strategies put in place by the outgoing IGP to ensure a hitch-free electoral exercise.


Tambuwal Town Goes Agog For Buhari

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday took its campaign train to Tambuwal town, home front of sitting Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal amidst overwhelming ovation by mammoth crowd of supporters expressing their unprecedented loyalty to the opposition party led by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.

“Gaba dai, gaba dai APC, Baba Buhari zabin Allah, Zabin kowa! baya baya PDP!”, meaning: ” Forward ever APC. President Buhari is God’s choice and everyone’s choice! Backward ever PDP”, were the slogans intermittently renting the air.

Speaking while presenting flags to candidates of the party in the zone, Senator Wamakko noted that APC in the state was fast spreading by the day in the state.


Ajimobi Threatens To Ban Transport Unions Linked To Violence

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has warned members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) to remain peaceful or risk being banned.

Ajimobi gave the warning on Tuesday in Ibadan during the All Progressives Congress (APC)  gubernatorial rally held in Egbeda Local Government Area of the state.

The  governor gave the warning against the background of security reports that the transport unions were poised to engage in violence.

He, however, said that any transport union involved in any clash during the electioneering campaigns in the state would be banned.
