2019: If Atiku Fails, Alamieyeseigha Will Not Rest ― Diri

The Bayelsa State Senatorial District Candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Douye Diri has raised worries that the grave of Late Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha would not be happy if the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar fails at the 2019 general polls.

Hon. Diri stated this when his campaign team visited Amassoma Community, the country home of Late Alamieyeseigha, in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

He further explained that Atiku has been a bosom friend and that Alamieyeseigha has been at the forefront of those that wanted Atiku to be President, therefore PDP’s victory should be the priority of every Bayelsan.

MPC To Leave Baseline Interest Rate At 14 Per Cent ― Expert

A professor of Capital Market, Uche Uwaleke has predicted that the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) meeting on Monday and Tuesday will leave baseline rates unchanged for the 15th consecutive time.

MPC meets once in two months and has retained Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) (rate at which it lends to banks) at 14 per cent along with all the other base rates including Asymmetry Corridor at +200-500 basis points around MPR, Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) at 22.5 per cent and Liquidity Ratio at 30 percent.

Uwaleke, who is Chair of the Banking and Finance Department at Nassarawa State University said his prediction is the trend in many countries regardless of central banks’ independence.


JAIZ Bank Committs To Financial Inclusion, Says MD

Jaiz Bank Plc is committed to provide financial inclusion to a large segment of the society who are currently financially excluded, its Managing Director Hassan Usman has said.

Speaking at the National Financial Literacy Stakeholders’ Conference in Abuja yesterday, Usman said that Jaiz Bank being itself a child of financial inclusion policy of the Federal Government to provide non-interest banking for those who prefer it would ensure that there is deep penetration of financial services to the ordinary citizenry.

He said Jaiz Bank has been part of the process of insuring financial inclusion through agency banking and also the use technology to reach the unbanked.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state, on Monday, continued his campaign for governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Adebayo Adelabu, declaring that Adelabu was the candidate that was most accomplished and well-to-do hence would not amass wealth cum embezzle public funds if elected.

Ajimobi who spoke during at a campaign for Adelabu and other APC candidates at Bodija and Yemetu areas of Ibadan, said Adelabu possessed the fear of God, was well-educated and from the Adegoke Adelabu family known to have been committed to the development of Ibadan.

According to Ajimobi, the concern of the former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Adelabu in vying for governorship was to improve the welfare of residents of the state and not to amass wealth.


Dogara Decries Economic Situation In Nigeria, Calls On Electorates To Vote Out APC

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has decried the economic situation in the country, as well as the level of poverty among Nigerians caused by what he described as bad governance under the APC, led federal government.

Yakubu Dogara who spoke Monday at the flagging off of the gubernatorial campaign of the PDP in Gombe state held in Kaltungo appealed to the electorates to vote massively for the PDP in the general elections for a positive Nigeria.

The Speaker said that; “Nigeria has been under intense security challenges, we must stop the APC in order to have one united Nigeria and end insecurity in North-East region, Zamfara, Sokoto and the country at large”.


We’re Building Projects Because Buhari Is Honest ― Osinbajo

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has said that the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari is performing because of his honesty.

Osinbajo stated this while addressing people at the Ekiti Parapo Pavillion, at the Ekiti State’s edition of the national MSME clinic on Monday.

Professor Osinbajo noted that the MSME was one of the major policies/projects of the current federal government because it was “centred around the youth and poor Nigerians.”


Assets Declaration: Onnoghen Asks Appeal Court To Stop CCT Trial

Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, has approached the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, with an application seeking to halt his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

Justice Onnoghen, who is facing trial at the CCT, for failure to declare all his assets, is asking the Appeal Court for an order to stop the tribunal from hearing the charge filed against him by the Federal Government.

He is also asking the court to stop the suit requesting him to step down as the CJN.


Ondo Senatorial Election: Mimiko Pledges To Lobby Lawmakers For Election Reform Law.

Former Governor of Ondo State and the Senatorial Candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the February 16 Election, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, on Monday, said he will create synergy with politicians of like minds to lobby other members of the National Assembly to legislate for Election Finance Reform Law.

Mimiko stated who stated this in Akure, Ondo state capital while addressing people from the six local governments areas that constituted Ondo Central Senatorial District, said he would also lobby for legislation of masses oriented projects to replicate programmes and projects executed and implemented while he was the governor of the state.

Mimiko appreciated the people of the area for supporting him in his past political career, said he would not let the people down if he wins the senatorial election.


Attack On Obasanjo: Stop Acting Like A Coward, PDP Tells Buhari

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted President Muhammadu Buhari for allowing his aide to haul insults “on respected leaders and elder statesmen, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, for cautioning against his desperation for self-succession.”

The party said in approving his media aide, Mallam Shehu Garba, to cast aspersions and insult on a former President, President Buhari is setting a very bad example to younger Nigerians by fouling our national values and heritage of esteeming our elders and leaders; a seed, which may also haunt him in the future.

According to a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by Kola Ologbondiyan Director, Media & Publicity, PDP Presidential Campaign Organization, Nigerians were appalled that President Buhari, “whose state of health has been accommodated by the nation, would turn around to make baseless and unsubstantiated negative assertions on the health of another leader.”
