Ex-President Shehu Shagari Is Dead

Former President of Nigeria, Shehu Shagari, died yesterday, Friday, at the National Hospital in Abuja.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State revealed this in a tweet. He said “I regret to announce the death of former President Shehu Shagari who passed away at National Hospital Abuja. May his soul rest in peace.

In a confirmation by the Shagari family, Bello Shagari — a grandson of the former president — had said “I regret announcing the death of my grandfather, H.E Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died right now after brief illness at the National hospital, Abuja.”

Former President Shehu Usman Shagari, who was born in 1925 was aged 93 at the time of his death.


Boko Haram Attacks Two Military Bases, Loots Rocket Launchers, Ammunition

Two military bases in the Northeastern zone of Nigeria suffered attacks from the infamous Boko Haram terrorists.

Sources revealed that the terrorists attacked a naval base and a multinational joint task force (MNJTF) post in Baga. This attack, which began at about 7:00 pm local time (1800 GMT) was done to gain control of strategic areas of the Lake Chad.

According to a source who pleaded anonymity, “The troops were overpowered and forced to withdraw, the terrorists carted away gun trucks, ammunition and multiple rocket launchers from the base.”

In a statement released by the Spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Sani Usman, he said “The troops along with their Nigerian Navy counterparts put up a very determined fight all night. Sadly, one navy personnel was killed”.

The Boko Haram insurgency which has lasted for nine years — killed thousands of both military and civilians, and also rendered over two million people homeless — is a scourging war against humanity.


Army Launches Python Dance III

The Nigerian Army has launched a special military operation tagged ‘Operation Egwu Eke III’

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai, who was represented by the Army’s Chief of Training and Operations, Maj. Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, at the launch held at the Headquarter of Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri, on Friday, said the military operation will be conducted across the country.

He said “The Nigerian Army will continue to conduct internal security operations in combating criminality and other security challenges in the country, in line with its constitutional mandate of military aid to civilian authority”.

“Let me use this opportunity to call on the good people of our great nation Nigeria, to provide our men and women in uniform adequate support especially timely Information to enable them deliver on the mandate of exercise ‘Egwu Eke III”.

Operation ‘Egwu Eke’ is an Igbo phrase meaning ‘Python Dance’, and has previously been conducted in 2016 and 2017 respectively in the southeast region of Nigeria.


Bishop Kukah Mourns Shehu Shagari

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah, has commiserated with former Nigerian president, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died on Friday night, at the National Hospital Abuja.

Kukah, in a statement today, said “The late former president was a committed patriot, dedicated to the building of a peaceful and democratic Nigeria.

“In his pursuit for dialogue, he was the first Nigerian leader to invite the Pope to visit our country in 1982, thus, laying the moral foundation for his Ethnical Revolution”.

Bishop Kukah prayed unto God to grant the deceased, eternal rest.


Buhari: I Will Arrest More Politicians

President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to arrest more politicians in 2019.

He said “I will not stop arresting corrupt politicians. Very soon, I will inform Nigerians of funds recovered from looters. I will ensure that I recover Nigeria and no Nigerian will ever regret voting me and the APC”.

“We will not go back on the Single Treasury Account, it is meant to ensure transparency, because every federal government money that goes in there can easily be traced”.

Buhari who revealed this at the flag-off of his presidential campaigns in Akwa Ibom, also promised to tackle unemployment.


10 Die In Auto Crash In Benue

The zonal campaign rally of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue South Senatorial district was, on Friday, cancelled after seven members of the party lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident involving three vehicles.

The deceased were on their way from Oju local government area to the campaign rally in Agatu Local government area when their vehicle had a head on collision with another vehicle along Otukpo-Oweto highway.

The campaign rally was cancelled after due consultations with leaders of the party in the state including Governor Samuel Ortom, former Senate President, Sen. David Mark, Former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, and the state chairman of the PDP, Sir John Ngbede


You‘re Killing Education In Nigeria, Stakeholders Berate FG

The Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Plateau State, Mr. Bulus Dabit, has called on the Federal Government to act quickly, to stem the increase in social vices such as rape, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, electoral violence etc in the country.

Mr. Dabit, who was represented by an Assistant Director of Programme, Mr. Mwakon Dung Vincent, said: “Lack of proper funding of non- formal education for effective teaching of adults and school dropouts is responsible for social vices such as kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, crises and communal violence in the country.

She blamed poverty, crisis, and non-commitment of some parents and bad government policies to the increasing crime rate in the country.


Onitsha Celebrates Radio Sapientia 7th Anniversary

Onitsha, the commercial centre of the South East, literally shut down on Friday during the cultural concert to mark the 7th Anniversary of Radio Sapeintia, 95.3FM, Onitsha.

Tambuwal: Shagari A Great Teacher

Sokoto State governor, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has condoled with the family of Shehu Shagari, people of Sokoto State and Nigeria, describing the exit of the former president as a “great loss.”

In a released issued on his behalf by Abubakar Shekara, Director General, Media and Public Affairs, the governor noted that it was with deep sadness that he announced the death of the “first Executive President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,’ who until his death, held the traditional title of Turakin Sokoto.

“He was a minister in the First Republic and during the administration of General Yakubu Gowon”.

He informed that Shagari passed away at the National Hospital, Abuja at the age of 93.


Police: Dino Melaye Wanted For Homicide

The Police have said that embattled lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, was needed to answer to a case of attempted homicide.

The force alleged that Melaye and his armed thugs shot and injured one Sgt Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force who was on duty at a stop and search point along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi State on July 19, 2018.

The force spokesman, acting DCP Moshood Jimoh, said this in a statement following the police siege to Melaye’s Abuja residence.
