Nigerian Lady Says Ladies And Gentlemen is a Patriarchal Phrase

Nigerian Lady with the username @feminimeghanque on twitter stated that the phrase ladies and gentlemen is a societal patriarchal phrase and could have beenĀ  Gentleladies and Gentlemen instead.

She expressed her satisfaction at the fact that men are described gentle while women are just described as ladies.

Meanwhile after her post, several twitter users explained to her that lady means the same thing as a gentleman while sharing definitions from Google and dictionary.

See her Post Below:

“I sometimes get mad when I hear this societal phrase “Ladies and gentlemen,” who came up with such combination? Sure guess it’s a misogynistic man from nowhere, what happens to “Ladies and men” or Gentladies and gentlemen”, powerful ladies and men” etal…

“Why should the man be described as being a Gentle man while they just refer to the opposite gender as just ladies. What was the basis for the gentleness of the men?

“What factors was in place to know these men are gentle. No they are not, they are just misogynistic men killing us.

“Simply put “Ladies andĀ  men” is as simple as that, why should their be extra compliments when it comes to men and just bare when it happens to be the ladies?

Patriarchy springs up again. It needs to be totally dismantled.”
