How to gain admission into OOU

Because OOU is one of the best universities in Nigeria, a lot of candidates aspire to study there. However, there are a lot of information you need to know to successfully gain admission into OOU. From choice of course to basic admission requirements. Then to the post UTME/DE screening exercise.

OOU courses – List of Accredited Courses

Olabisi Onabanjo University offers prospective students a number of courses to from. Importantly, candidates need to know if their choice course of study is one of those offered in OOU. Therefore here is a list of all courses offered by OOU according to faculties.

a. First is the Faculty of Engineering and Environment Sciences: Here you have Agricultural Engineering, Architecture, Civil Engineering and Computer Engineering. Also, there is Mechanical Engineering, Electrical And Electronics Engineering, Transport Planning and Management as well as Urban And Regional Planning.

b. Secondly, there is the Obafemi Awolowo College of Medicine and Health Sciences where you have Anatomy, Medicine And Surgery, Pharmacology, Pharmacy and Physiology.

c. Then there is College of Agricultural Sciences including courses such as Agric-Extension And Rural Sociology, Cooperative Management, Agricultural Economics And Farm Management as well as Agriculture Crop Production. Also there is Fisheries Forestry And Wildlife.

d. In the Faculty of Social and Management Science, there is Accountancy/Accounting, Banking And Finance, Accounting Economics and Industrial And Labour Relations. In addition, there is Mass Communication, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology

e. Faculty of Art and Humanities offers Christian Religious Knowledge/Studies,
English Language, Fine/Applied Arts, French as well as History And Diplomatic Studies. Also, there is Islamic Studies, Performing Arts, Philosophy and Yoruba.

f. In the Faculty of Law, there is Civil Law.

g. Consequently, there is also the Faculty of Education where they offer courses including Business Education, Education and Christian Religious Studies, Education and Computer Science and Education and Economics. Others include Education and Islamic Studies, Education and Mathematics as well as Education and Physics. Finally, there is Guidance & Counselling, Health Education, Nursery And Primary Education and Sport Science.
Note that faculty of education offers other courses that combine education with courses in social and management science.

h. Finally there is the Faculty of Science: here we have Applied Zoology, Biochemistry, Chemical Sciences and Computer Science. In addition, there is
Geology, Industrial Chemistry, Mathematics, Microbiology and Physics. Finally, there is Plant Science and Statistics

Note : Recently, a few new courses have been approved for OOU by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Therefore courses like B.A Linguistics, BNSc. Nursing and B.A. Music are now available. However, these courses are for undergraduate study.

OOU Admission Requirements

Candidates who intend to study in OOU must meet certain basic requirements. Usually, these are the least required conditions. As there may be more depending on course of study and post UTME/DE screening cut off marks.
i. First candidates need to possess at least six credits in O’level. Usually this should be in either WAEC/NECO or WAEC GCE.
ii. Secondly, your O’Level credits should be obtained in not more than two sittings.
iii. Thirdly, candidates must score at least 180 points in JAMB/UTME.
iv. Furthermore, candidate who apply to OOU will be required to take a Post-UTME screening. Usually ,this is conducted by OOU itself and is a necessary prerequisite to gaining admission into the university.
v. In addition to taking post UTME screening, candidates must also meet the cut off mark for their respective department or course.

OOU Direct Entry Requirements

Candidates who fall in this category include the following :
a. First, those who have obtained an A’Level , OND, HND, JUPEB. Also those who already have a degree but wish to study in OOU though direct entry.
b. Secondly, candidates who have a diploma certificate from OOU and have applied for admission through direct entry.
c. In addition, candidates with other university diploma can apply.
d. Most importantly, these candidates must possess at least upper credit. Also Then they must have written the UTME/DE exam and have the minimum required score of 180.

OOU Post UTME

As a prerequisite to gaining admission, prospective students must register for OOU post UTME. However, this is after obtaining a score of at least 180 in the JAMB exam. Usually registration for OOU post UTME screening costs N2,000.00. As this was the set price for 2018/2019 OOU post UTME registration .

Important note : it is possible for candidates who did not select OOU as their first choice to write the post UTME exam. However, such candidates must do a change of institution to OOU or change to first choice. Before they apply for post UTME. Also, those who fall in this category must have at least 180 marks in UTME.

OOU Post UTME Screening and Admission Portal

The OOU post UTME portal is very important to candidates who wish to be admitted into Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye. As this is where they will make applications for Post UTME screening.

How to Register for OOU Post UTME/DE Screening
To register for OOU post UTME screening:
i. First, candidate should log on to University’s Post UTME portal at  http://putme.oouagoiwoye.edu.ng.
ii. Then click on the “APPLY” button.
iii. After this, create a profile using your JAMB Registration Numbers.
iv. Consequently, candidate should generate a payment invoice.
Note that the Payment of N2,000 can be made online at the post UTME portal. Also, candidates can pay at any of the OOU campuses or at OOU Guest House, Ijebu ode.

v. After payment, candidates are strongly advised to complete their registration on the portal.
vi. Furthermore, candidate should print their OOU post UTME screening pass and bring along to the venue of the screening.

OOU Admission Portal

The OOU admission portal is equally important for prospective students. As this is where they can are check their admission status. Olabisi Onabanjo university uploads list of admitted candidates once they admission process has been completed and the list is ready. Also, prospective students can print their acceptance fee invoice and pay for admission acceptance.

OOU Admission List Online – Check your OOU admission status

Candidates can check the admission list on the OOU portal. Simply log in with your JAMB registration number and password. Then log in a second time to access the admission list.
