One Person Shot As Youths And Women Protest In Delta State Over Invasion of 100 Herdsmen

One person has been shot while several other people have sustained different degrees of injuries in an ongoing protest by youths and women in Delta state.

The incident occurred around Agadama community in Ugheli North local government area of Delta State over the invasion of herdsmen into their community.

A lot of people making their way to the headquarters of Bormadi council area and close communities in the area and also Burutu local government area were left stranded for some couple of hours because the protesters covered the road.

The protest made by the youths and women around Agadama community in Ugheli North local government area of Delta state comes 2 days after a fisherman from the same Agadama community identified as Genesis, was also shot dead by the herdsmen with his dead body still in the bush around the community.

The youths and women who protested on the road as early as 6 am, confirmed that they saw a group of over 100 herdsmen coming into their community around 2 am very early in the hours of today and alerted the army.

However, at the arrival of the group of herdsmen got to the community at about 4:30 am as reported by one of the witnesses, the women and youths who protested had already covered the road, and also laid accusations on the army for helping the group of herdsmen to achieve their aim.

Some sources at the community stated that a fight broke out between the protesters and the army because they made an attempt to force their way through the barricade which was made up by the youths with their Hilux vans, but the youths prevented them.

The fight resulted in the shooting of one of the youths on the leg, Vincent Jonathan, who protested alongside other youths and women respectively. Around 1 pm, the protesters finally departed the scene.
