Opinion: Why No Nigerian Should Fight Over Any Politician

– President Buhari and Ex-Pres. Obasanjo met at Abuja with smiles and exchange pleasantries despite their disagreement

The 2019 General Election is less than a month and Nigerians are prepared to go to the polling booth to vote for their best candidates either by favoritism, ethnicism, and every other ‘ism’ that may be the reason for their interest in such candidates.

However, at this moment, political campaigns are easy to come by as political candidates move from one location to the other trying to win the heart of the people at the grassroots.

Campaigning is legal and is an acceptable means to promote and see how popular the politicians are.

But what do we have to say over politicians criticizing each other heavily via various means of communication?

The recent verbal attack which is trending online was between ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo and president Muhammadu Buhari.

Both political stalwarts through various means of communication made statement and counter-statement against each other.

Their followers, which included people at the grassroots level took sides with the two leaders and took to various means to support one over the other.

Well, it may shock some Nigerians, not that it is something new to see, that the two leaders, Olusegun Obasanjo, and Pres. Muhammadu Buhari met today during the council of states meeting.

Both men were all smiles as they exchanged pleasantries and they showed no sign of any past disagreement.

If these two leaders can meet each other in peace after heavily criticizing each other a few hours ago, then why should Nigerians especially at the grassroots take the matter up than what it should be, a ‘mere criticism.’

The duo of Obasanjo and Buhari have learned that ‘to agree you have to disagree.’
