According to a statement, the 2020 Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Ondo State, Banjo Okunomo, has appealed to the Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu to reduce the high tuition fees in the state tertiary institutions.

Okunomo released this statement today in Okitipupa while reacting to the closure of the two state tertiary institutions which are, Adekunle Ajasin University and Ondo State University of Science and Technology.

The PDP Governorship candidate in his statement disclosed that the students in the state institutions now pay N300,000, N250,000 and N200,000 as against the previous tuition fees of N120,000, N100,000 and N75,000 that had obtained for various courses.

Banjo Okunomo, who also doubles as the state PDP Publicity Secretary, stressed that if the tuition fees are not reduced to the previous fees then the children of the downtrodden might be forced to drop out of school because they could not afford the high tuition.

He added that once they drop out of schools, some of them will take to social vices when they remain idle at home.

Okunomo in his statement urged the Governor to consider the plight of students and parents by reducing the tuition fees so that they can return to the class.

Below is an extract from his statement,

“These students dropping out of schools will eventually take to social vices the moment they are at home staying idle.

“We appeal to the governor to consider the plights of these students and their parents and reduce their tuition accordingly for them to go back to classes”.
