PDP NWC Summons Elumelu, Oke, Ikpeazu, Others Over House Leadership Tussle

PDP faction emerges over the leadership role in the House of Reps.

The opposition party says it has forwarded names of it selected candidates to the speaker.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has resolved to summon Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, Hon. Wole Oke, Hon. Lynda Ikpeazu, Hon. Anayo Edwin, Hon. Gideon Gwadi, Hon. Toby Okechukwu and Hon. Adekoya Abdul-Majid. to a crucial meeting at the party’s national secretariat, on Friday, July 5.

This was a decision reached in its 473rd meeting held today Thursday 4th of July 2019.

Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary in a statement in Abuja, the nation’s capital said the summon is in line with the provisions of Chapter 10 (57)(3) of the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Recall that the House of Representatives session ended in a rowdy one when the speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila was about to read a letter from the opposition party which had forwarded the names of the members nominated to be part of the presiding officers of the 9th Assembly.

“The members are to appear before the members of the National Working Committee at 10 am,” the statement said.

A member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kingsley Chinda, however, raised a point of order on Wednesday but the Speaker ruled him out of order.

Everything went rowdy as several PDP lawmakers protested against the planned announcement.

The sergeants-at-arms moved to protect the mace while Gbajabiamila, in the heat of the controversy, adjourned the plenary and the Speaker was guarded out of the chamber amid cheers and jeers.
