Petr Cech Switches Football For Ice Hockey As He Jumps Out Of Retirement

Petr Cech has now switched football for professional ice hockey as he makes a shock move out of retirement.

The Chelsea legend who announced his retirement at the end of last term will now take his position in goal for local side Guildford Phoenix.

His ice hockey team are based not far from Chelsea’s training ground in Cobham, where the Czech Republic man works as a technical director and performance advisor.

The legendary goalkeeper will be allowed to take part in the game only when his schedule allows him to do so.

The 37-year-old has expressed his delight at realizing his childhood dream of playing the game.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to play with the Phoenix to get the match experience,” the former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper told the club’s official website.

“I hope I can help this young team to achieve their goals for the season and try to win as many games as possible when I have the chance to play.

“After 20 years of professional football this is going to be a wonderful experience for me to play the game I loved to watch and play as a kid.”

Petr Cech is poised to make his debutĀ on Sunday when Swindon Wildcats 2 pay a visit to the former Blues stopper’s new team.

Milos Melicherik, head coach of Phoenix Guildford said the folks at the club are excited to see the Czech pitch his tent with the club. He also said the team looks forward to seeing him make his debut this weekend.

“We are very excited to have Petr join the Phoenix team and we are looking forward to seeing him in action this weekend,” he said.

“He has improved a lot since I first saw him on the ice and I am excited to see him play.”
