Pochettino Expresses Concern For Andre Gomes Gruesome Injury

Although, Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t think Son Heung-Min deserves a red card for his challenge on Andre Gomes, he is more concerned with the gruesome injury the former Barcelona midfielder suffered.

The Argentine gaffer has lent his support to the Everton midfielder after he was stretchered off with a horrific injury he suffered in Everton’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham.

Andre Gomes was taken off following a collision with Serge Aurier having been tripped earlier than Son Heung-Min. Both players were visibly worried with the extent of the injury with referee, Martin Atkinson controversially showing the red card in Son’s direction.

With the Lilywhites leading 1-0 at the time, Everton equalised in stoppage time with a Cenk Tosun’s header from a Lucas Digne cross. Despite dropping points, Pochettino thinks the result is only a secondary concern.

“We feel very sorry,” the Argentine manager told Sky Sports. “It was a really bad situation and bad luck with how he landed in the action and we can only send our best wishes and, of course, we are devastated for the situation.

“Football is not important, he is important. We can talk about football but we are feeling bad, feeling sorry and devastated for what happened because it was so difficult.”

Showing his support to Gomes, Pochettino was also quick to absolve Son for blames directed at him.

The Lilywhites boss thinks Gomes was only unfortunate and the red cars shown Son was really unfair.

“He was devastated,” he added. “It was a situation that was very confused, it was difficult to keep calm.

“After, when you watch the action on TV, it is never the intention and it was never a tackle to do what happened after. It was very bad luck for Andre, very bad luck for Everton and the finish with a red card for Sonny was really unfair.”
