Police Arrest 3 Internet Fraudsters Who Impersonate King Sunny Ade

— 3 Suspects have been arrested for impersonating King Sunny Ade.

— They defrauded people of more than 3 million naira pretending to be Sunny Ade.

Lawrence Oyedokun, 27; Rebecca Oyebode, 23; and Oyewumi Abiodun, 27 were arrested by the police for impersonation, fraud and conspiracy.

They operate through an Instagram account @kingsunnyademusic and announce a UK or US tour with Sunny Ade. They also inform the fans that it comes with a free visa. Over 55 people have fallen for this scam and over 3 million was made from this impersonation.

The Afro-Juju musician had reported the case to the police station. He said he started receiving calls from people who claim they had paid him for his tour.

They will say they are this and they got paid for visa. When it was getting too much for me, I had to invite the police to trace those behind the impersonation, so that my name would be cleared and people would know that I am not the person defrauding them.

“I have never done anything like that in my life and career. I am a law-abiding citizen of this country. So, I had to call the police to come and help me.”  He told Vanguard.

It was also reported that one of the suspect is Yinka Quadri’s personal assistant. A popular Nollywood Yoruba actor.

The police traced the suspects through the bank account people paid them to. It was traced to Rebecca Oyebode, who turned out to be the girlfriend of Lawrence.

She explained that it’s her boyfriend that use the account and she was escorted to his home where he was arrested along side his partner.

This case is adjourned to May 22 for court hearing.

King Sunny Ade also known as KSA is a Nigerian songwriter whose genre of music is labeled Afro-Juju. He has been called one of the most influential musicians of all time.
