Police In Abia State Nabs Three INEC Officials With 10,000 PVCs

Operatives of the Police command in Abia State have apprehended three officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for allegedly being in possession of over 10,000 Permanent Voter Cards in the state.

iDONSABI gathers that one of the suspects, identified as one Stella, was apprehended at a checkpoint at the INEC head office in Umuahia, Abia’s state capital.

Stella, one of the suspects, was known to have stuffed the PVCs in the booth of her Honda Accord saloon car with Registration No.AKD 953 FN.

According to reports, it was also known that Stella was then nabbed while she made effort to move the PVCs illegally to a location where they were to be used to rig elections in favour of some politicians yet unidentified in the last Saturday’s postponed presidential and National Assembly elections on February 16th.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Abia state identified as Prof. Joseph Iroh, confirmed that the suspects were employees of INEC.

Prof Iroh also stated that they were on an official assignment in Ikwuano Local Government Area before they were nabbed.

Prof Joseph Iroh, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Abia, also stressed that the INEC office in the state was not contacted to properly clear them before they were taken to the police station in order for them to make a statement.

When the Police Public Relations Officer in Abia state was contacted, Mr Geoffrey Ogbonna, he as well confirmed that the suspects were arrested by the police in the state.

Mr Geoffery Ogbonna, the PPRO in Abia state, also stated that one of the suspects claimed that she was reportedly returning the uncollected PVCs to the INEC head office before she was apprehended by operatives of the Abia State Police Command.
