Police In Ogun State Apprehends Thugs With Charms At APC Presidential Rally

Pandemonium broke out yesterday, February 11, at the venue of the presidential campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State after the arrest of some suspected thugs who involved themselves in a serious fight at the venue.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) rally was held at the Moshood Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, the state capital of Ogun State on Monday, February 11.

The fight between suspected thugs came as thousands of APC supporters and those of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) arrived at the venue for their respective campaigns.

Allies of the Ogun state governor identified as Ibikunle Amosun, who were denied tickets by the All Progressive Congress (APC) are running on the tickets of the APM and are being covered up by the governor who himself is a senatorial candidate of the APC.

Both APC and APM are, however, backing Mr Buhari for reelection into power for the second time running.

The clash began as thousands of party faithful of APC awaited the arrival of President Muhammhamadu Buhari and other leaders of the APC who attending another rally in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The police went on to apprehend some of the suspected thugs who were armed with dangerous weapons, including axes, charms and guns respectively.

A few of the newsmen were also caught in the trouble as it spread outside the stadium where the rally was meant to have happened.

A publisher for one newspaper in Nigeria identified as Samuel Ibiyemi, stated that he narrowly escaped death.

While he narrated what happened, Samuel Ibiyemi said he lost a wristwatch and other valuables to the thugs in the process.

Ibiyemi also stated that the thugs also seized and tore copies of the publications he had brought to the venue.

The spokesperson of the state police command identified as Abimbola Oyeyemi, could not be reached during the time of the fighting.
