Presidency Dismisses Allegations of Nepotism Against Osinbajo

The Presidency has dismissed the recent allegations of nepotism and tribalism against the office and person of the Vice President, regarding them as baseless and as a plot to destabilize the country. The allegations were made by one Ismailia Farouk on social media, stating that the Vice President had influenced the appointments to top government positions in favour of the south-west zone and the Redeemed Christian Church of God, of which he is a member and pastor.

Key appointments mentioned in the article include the Managing Director of the Bank of Industry, and the Director General of the Pension Commission. The writer also accused the Vice President of using his office to position himself for the presidency in 2019, with the expectation that President Buhari would be unable to contest.

According to the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Legal matters, Dr Bilkisu Saidu, the charges were untrue, unfair and should not be taken seriously. Speaking on “Shirin Safe” a BBC Hausa Radio Programme, she stated that most senior position in the office of the Vice President is the office of the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President which is occupied by a Muslim. She went on to list several sensitive and high ranking positions in the office of the Vice President that are currently occupied by Muslims and northerners.

THISDAY newspapers reports that a Presidential source claimed that Ismaila Farouk was a fictitious personality created by forces who were unhappy that the acting President was in control of the government machinery. He alleged that these forces were out to distract the Vice President from carrying out his duties effectively. The source went further to state that the Vice President was strategizing for the 2019 which explains why he has not used his office to build a structure for himself in his south-west zone.
