Presidency Expresses Sadness Over Kolade Johnson’s Murder By Police

The Presidency on Monday has expressed sadness over the killing of Kolade Johnson,  by policemen from the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Lagos State Command.

Johnson was killed by a trigger happy Policeman when an unmarked commercial bus visited Mangoro/Onipetesi community in Lagos, on Sunday afternoon in search of youths dressed inappropriately and wearing dreadlocks.

While trying to disperse a crowd which had gathered during the raid, one of the police operatives killed Johnson, who was trying to leave the scene after watching English Premier League match between Liverpool and Tottenham.

This incident has led to the arrest of the three officers suspected to have been involved in the killing.

Bala Elkana, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos police command in a statement on Monday said the arrested police team suspected to have been involved in the shooting of Johnson will be subjected to internal disciplinary procedures and may be prosecuted in conventional Court if implicated by the ongoing investigation. He, therefore, assured Nigerian that Justice will prevail.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu calls for calm, assuring that justice will prevail in this case.

“The CP also condoles with the family, friends and well wishers of Kolade Johnson,” he  added.

Reacting to the incident on Monday night,  the Presidency expressed its deepest condolence to the family and friends of Kolade Johnson.

“Deepest Condolences to the family and friends of Kolade Johnson, victim of the March 31 fatal shooting in Lagos. @PoliceNG have assured that the Team suspected of involvement in the shooting have been apprehended & are undergoing a disciplinary procedure. Updates will be provided,” a tweet from the Presidency’s Twitter handle reads.
