Presidency To launch Nigeria’s National Prisons Information Management System (PIMS) on 18th of January

– The Presidency in a collaboration with the Nigerian Prisons Service will launch the the National Prisons Information Management System PIMS on Friday
– PIMS is the first of it kind and will be linked with the National Identity Management Commission, which is already in place
According to a latest report which was made public today, the Nigerian Prisons Service NPS in collaboration with the Presidency will launch a new management system for prisons located within the country.
The new management system is to be called the National Prisons Information Management System (PIMS).
According to the report, the launching will be done on Friday, January 18, 2019, and will take place at Sheraton Hotels, Abuja.
The information was made public by Tolu Ogunlesi and he made it known that the PIMS will be linked with National Identity Management Commission NIMC.
His statement read, ‘The Nigerian Prisons Service in collaboration with the Presidency is launching Nigeria’s National Prisons Information Management System (PIMS). Official launch is on Friday, January 16, 2019. First-of-its-kind-in-Nigeria prisons information database, linked to NIMC.’
The National Prison Information Management System is the first of it kind in the country.

A quick check at a similar model being run in other countries disclosed that it will help give account of the total number of inmates in each prison located in the country.
It will also help with providing the bio-data and every necessary information of each inmate.
Moreover, it will help the Nigerian Prison Service on how well to managed the prisons efficiently and effectively.
And also since it will be linked with the National Identity Management Commission NIMC, it will help build a database for every Nigerian and will be helpful during population census and for all other statistical usages.
