Prof Mahmood Yakubu – INEC ICT facilities will be offline during the elections

– INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu disclosed that the ICT facilities belonging to the electoral body will be offline during the election

– He added that the body is not under pressure

As Nigerians prepare to cast their votes during the rescheduled Presidential Election set to take place on Saturday, 26th of Feb, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu has made it known that the Electoral body is prepared for the Saturday polls.

Prof Mahmood Yakubu, who announced the postponement of the 2019 General Election in early hours of last Saturday when the Presidential Election was expected to start disclosed that the electoral body is not under pressure.

The Electoral Body chairman made this known today in Abuja.

As part of the plans of the electoral body to ensure a credible, free and fair election, Prof Mahmood Yakubu has made it known that the ICT facilities belonging to INEC will be offline during the election.

He disclosed that the reason for this action is to prevent an attack on the facilities during the election.

According to the INEC Chairman, the Commission will continue to strengthen security during the election period, he also declared that the body will continue to do all it can according to the law and due process.

He said: “INEC is not under pressure. Let me state here that most of our ICT facilities will be offline because its difficult to attack ICT facilities that are offline. We will continue to strengthen security during this period.

“We will continue to do all we can in line with the stipulations of the law and due process.”

A report also made it known that the Chairman also met with transport associations in the country to aid the movement of logistics.
