A University of Pittsburgh professor, Bing Liu researching COVID-19 was shot and killed in an apparent murder-suicide over the weekend.
Police officials reported that the research assistant professor, was found in his house on Saturday with gunshot wounds to his head, neck, torso and extremities.
Another unidentified man way found dead in his car. Investigators have concluded that the second man shot and killed Liu and the returned to his car commit suicide.
As mentioned in a statement issued by the university, Bing Liu was the verge of making significant findings on COVID-19.
“The University extends our deepest sympathies to Liu’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time,” the statement reads.
“Bing was on the verge of making very significant findings toward understanding the cellular mechanisms that underlie SARS-CoV-2 infection and the cellular basis of the following complications,” his colleagues at the university’s Department of Computational and Systems Biology said in a statement
