Rakitic Reiterates Decision To Remain At Barcelona

Ivan Rakitic is insistent on remaining in Camp Nou amidst rumours linking him to a move elsewhere. The Croatian midfielder has reiterated his decision to stay put with Barcelona.

Speculations circling the World Cup finalist is nothing new, having being linked to elite clubs across Europe most especially the likes of Manchester United and Inter Milan who have been repeatedly credited with an interest in him.

The 31 year old has always turned a deaf ear to all the rumours, maintaining his stance on staying put at Barcelona.

When quizzed on the recent transfer rumours during the club’s preseason tour, Rakitic replied by saying

“My idea is very clear, I want to stay at Barca.

“[Transfer talk] is a situation I’m used to. It happened to me last year.

“I’ve spoken with the club and the coach and we have the same idea, for me to stay at Barca.

“We’re open to everything, as always, but my intention is to stay. I have two more years on my contract and I want to keep enjoying myself at Barca.”

Rakitic who is currently tied to a deal at the Nou Camp till 2021 says he isn’t annoyed with the rumours stating that it was part of the game

“It doesn’t annoy me.

“I know that football works like this and it makes me proud because if other teams want me it’s because I’m doing things very well. I’m calm.”

That said, Rakitic isn’t close to inking any deal with no discussions held yet.

“I spoke with the president on various topics and now the club has other things to do before thinking about [my new contract],” added Rakitic.

“The president wants to create a good squad so that the fans can enjoy Barca.”

Barca president, Bartomeu is in the business of bringing new faces to the club this summer and have found a marquee signing in Antoine Griezmann.
