Real Madrid Crash Out Of Copa del Rey In Riotous Game Against Sociedad

Real Madrid crashed out of the Copa del Rey at the hands of Real Sociedad. As excruciatingly painful as this was, the fact that it was a loanee from the Galacticos in Martin Odegaard who scored the first goal must have made it a pill even harder to swallow.

Alexander Isak was the cream of the crop with a beautiful brace. Real Sociedad started on the front foot with Odegaard reminding his parent club of his potentials.

The 21-year-old was the first to find the back of the net after a goalkeeping gaffe by Alphonse Areola. That was the youngster’s sixth goal this term in the first of his two-season loan stint in San Sebastian. Alex Isak then took the game by the scruff of its neck by finding the net on too many occasions in as many second-half minutes.

Mikel Merino then scored the fourth goal for the away side before full-back, Marcelo then tucked back one in for the hosts. Sociedad held out to hand the league leaders their first defeat in 22 games despite an attempted comeback through further goals from Rodrygo and Nacho and a red card for Andoni Gorosabel in what could be described as a highly riotous finale.

Areola’s errors gifted Sociedad the right impetus early on after pushing a striker from Isal straight into the path of Odegaard and allowing the youngster’s followup to slide through his legs.

James Rodrigues snapshot could have helped Madrid crawl back into the game quickly but his shot was saved beautifully by Alex Remiro. The Sociedad goalie was also on hand to save successive shots from Vinicius Jr and Federico Valverde before Sergio Ramos’ shot hit the crossbar from an offside position.

An interesting night of football in Spain as the Laliga leaders crash out of the Copa del Rey.
