Real Madrid Vs Girona La Liga 17 February Review

Real Madrid have shot themselves in the foot once more after losing to Girona and failing to keep up the pressure on league leaders, Barcelona who remain at the summit of La Liga having secured a 1-0 win against Real Valladolid.

After winning a difficult run of games which has seen them come against tough oppositions in Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Ajax, they came undone by a lowly Girona who are having a hard time battling relegation.

They would however count themselves lucky being that Sergio Ramos who got himself sent off during the match would only miss the game against Levante and would be present for the double El Clasico tie in the La Liga and Copa Del Rey.

For all the talk of Madrid’s loss, they were the first to get on the scoresheet through Casemiro after the Brazilian headed home a Toni Kroos corss into the bottom corner just within twenty-five minutes.

Real Madrid dictated the play afterwards with Girona looking dangerous in isolated spells but they didn’t quite make the mark.

Everything soon changed in the second half with Real Madrid losing concentration after a dominating first-half. Girona soon went close through Granell but they failed to get the equalizer.

However, luck soon shined on them when they got awarded a penalty after a shot directed at goal was intentionally blocked by Sergio Ramos with his hands in the air. Stuani stepped us to convert from the spot.

Ten minutes later, Lozano shot at goal but it was saved by a spectacular Thibaut Courtois but Portu was on hand to head home from a tight corner to give the visitors the lead.

Solari and his men will be scratching their head for conceding that goal but some more itches were to come after Ramos got a second yellow and was sent off as a result.
