Rio Ferdinand Picks Grealish Over Maddison For United

Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand rates Jack Grealish over Maddison, admitting that the Aston Villa star was better at manipulating the ball.

The United legend says it is in this area that the Villa skipper has the edge over the Leicester City midfielder. The pair have both being linked to United in the recent past with both players assumed to be able to form a good partnership with Bruno Fernandes at the heart of the park.

Englishman Grealish has built on an outstanding 2018/19 season, when his form helped Villa get promotion to the Premier League from the Championship.

In his 26 outings this term, the 24-year-old has managed seven goals and six assists. This impressive form has forced fans to ask that he earns this first call-up from England.

Maddison on the other hand has already gotten a call-up from Gareth Southgate’s side in England’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo.

He’s managed only one appearance for the Three Lions though, coming off the bench against Montenegro. However, he’s been outstanding with Brendan Rodgers’ side this term, helping his side to third-place on the Premier League standings.

United have reportedly identified both Englishmen as summer transfer window targets. However, it is generally understood that only one of them could make way to Old Trafford.

According to Ferdinand, Grealish is a better pick of the pair.

“Grealish or Maddison? That’s a good question,” The former United centre-back responded during a Q&A with his followers on Instagram.

“They’re both flying, both done unbelievably well over the last year. They’re very different players. Maddison is someone who can get the ball, he can pop it about.

“He gets goals, gets assists, sets up chances, he’s sharp, he gets in good positions to create things. Very good footballer. I like him.

“Grealish does all of that but he has one thing over all these players we talk about in this position for England like Dele Alli, Maddison, Mason Mount in that position, that attacking [style] that can play off the striker, that can play as an attacking midfielder.
