‘Ronaldo Success Hindered By Football Mafia’ – Mother Of Portuguese Star

The mother of Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo has accused ‘football mafia’ of robbing her son of the Ballon D’Or.

The Juventus star has long been recognized as one of the best players to have graced the game but his mother feels he deserves even more recognition.

According to Ronaldo’s mum, her son is being held back by a football mafia in spite of the trophies and individual accolades he has accumulated.

The striker has consistently put up top-level performances for over a decade now, gathering for himself a plethora of titles during his spells at Manchester United, Real Madrid and now at Juventus. He also helped his national side, Portugal to a first major title at Euro 2016.

The Portuguese’s success is evident in his joint-record with Lionel Messi for the most Balon D’Or awards with five apiece.

However, the 34-year-old was denied a sixth Balon D’Or award last year, losing to his former teammate, Luka Modric.

Dolores Aveiro, Ronaldo’s mum is adamant that the Portuguese star hasn’t been given as much recognition as he deserves. She claims this is down to some dark forces moving against his success.

“There is a mafia. That’s the right word to define it. Yes, there is a mafia in football,” she said to the Portuguese press.

“If there wasn’t a football mafia, my son would have more [individual] international trophies. If you see everything that happened, you will realise that it is the mafia.

“If he was Spanish or English they would not do what they did to him. But since he’s Portuguese and from Madeira… well, this happens.”

Ronaldo remains one of the favourites to win this year’s Balon D’Or. However, he will be facing tough competition in Virgil Van Dijk and Lionel Messi.

She also believes Ronaldo could win it again if the football mafia ceases to intervene.

“I don’t know if he will get it, but I am confident. I think he deserves it if we analyse what he did during the season,” she said.
