Salah To Miss Clash With Barcelona Due To Concussion

Mohammed Salah will now miss Liverpool’s semi-final clash with Barcelona at the Anfield due to a concussion he sustained in his side’s game against Newcastle according to a statement by Jurgen Klopp.

The Egypt International suffered a head injury in a clash with Newcastle goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka and was brought off the field on a stretcher.

Salah will now join Firmino on the sidelines as one of the absentees in liverpool’s semifinal game with Barcelona where they have to overturn a 3-0 deficit.

It was always an uphill task to overturn such a scoreline against a great side like Barcelona who boast Messi in his ranks and it would even be tougher without attacking players in the shape of Mohammed Salah and Firmino.

Here’s what the ‘Gegenpressing’ gaffer had to say about the disturbing news.

“It’s a concussion so it’s a case of him not even being allowed to play,” said Klopp.

“He feels OK but it’s not good enough from a medical point view, that’s all.”

Despite these seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Klopp thinks his side could still sneak their way into the competition’s finals.

Liverpool had already conceded missing Firmino to a muscle injury and would now have to contend with the absence of the Egyptian forward.

“There’s hope and that’s football,” he added. “We are far away from giving up.

“Two of the world’s best strikers are not available tomorrow – it doesn’t make life any easier but while we have 11 players on the pitch we will try.”

Liverpool have a number of options on the bench with Xherdan Shaqiri the likeliest to come on for Salah and either of Sturridge or Divock Origi to make an appearance for Firmino.
