– He added that Local Government and state assemblies only exist on paper as the State Governors are in charge of everything

 

Senator Shehu Sanni in a new statement has applauded the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit NFIU for the move to save the Local Governments funds and allocations from state governments.

He added that it is the most significant effort to save the country’s ever since the return of Democracy in 1999.

Sen. Shehu Sanni in his statement said, “NFIU strategy to save the local Government account and allocations from the predatory activities of the state Governors is commendable. Its the most significant effort to save the LGs system since the return of democracy in 1999.”

He went on to say that Local Government and State assemblies are not existing in reality but only exist in name and on paper.

Sen. Shehu Sanni affirmed that everything at the state level ends with the state Governors.

He said, “Local Government and state assemblies only exist in name and on paper. Everything begins and end with the Governor of a state. The states turned to personal estates of the Governors; And that is part of the tragedy of our democracy in 20 years.”
This latest statement from Sen. Shehu Sanni comes after the President Muhammed Buhari led Federal Government declared Financial independence for Local Government Areas in the country.
According to the FG declaration, the financial independence for LGAs will start from June 1st.
Nigerians as well have applauded the move by the Government as it means the financial allocations will move directly to Local Government areas and not from the State Government.
