Mrs Omolola Abiola Edewor is the first daughter of Moshood Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, who later died shortly after the announcement of his victory.

She has also served as a former member of the House of Representatives, between 1993 – 2003.

President Buhari had previously recommend her appointment to the Senate. According to the President, her confirmation is in accordance with provisions of section 5(4) of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation Act.

Sen Adebayo, while presenting the report, said the nominee, Mrs Edewor, who currently holds the same position, has been screened and found worthy of being reappointed for a second and final term of five years.

He reported that the Senate at its sitting on April 9 had screened the nominee, and recommended her nomination to the committee for screening.

“The committee held the screening and we went through her curriculum vitae, security clearance form and code of conduct bureau details.

“She hails from Ogun State and she will be in charge of the administrative running of the organisation.

“The committee also found out that the nominee has no petition against her and she is qualified to hold the position for another term. So, we recommend that she be confirmed.”

With this recent confirmation of her reappointment, Mrs Edewor will now serve her second term of five years, which will also be her last term as executive director of NDIC.
