Senator Adeleke Arraigned For Exam Malpractices, Granted Bail 

Senator Adeleke, the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in the Osun State 2018 election ahs been arraigned by the police along with four others on charges of exam malpractices. The defendants all pleaded not guilty to the four counts laid against them. The four defendants were arraigned before Justice I. E. Ekwo of the Federal High Court in the Federal Capital.

Alongside Senator Adeleke, the arraigned defendants were Sikiru Adeleke; the principal of Ojo -Aro Community Grammar School, Alhaji Aregbesola Muftau ; the registrar of the school , Gbadamosi Ojo ; and a teacher in the school , Dare Samuel Olutope. The defendants were accused by the prosecution counsel of fraudulently committing the offense of exam malpractices and fraudulently registering Sikiru Adeleke and Adeleke as students of Ojo -Aro Community Grammar School, in Ojo -Aro in Osun State, for the National Examination Council ’s June / July 2017 Senior School Certificate Examination in February 2017.

On Wednesday, three of these defendants including Adeleke took their pleas and submitted individual bail application and were granted bail. While, Senator Adeleke was represented by Dr. Alex Izinyon ( SAN ), the other two were represented by Mr. Nathaniel Oke (SAN) and Mr. Abdusalami Abdulfatai. On the other hand, the fourth and fifth defendant were not represented by any lawyer on Wednesday.

The remaining two defendants were remanded in prison due to the absence of their lawyer and their inability to prepare their bail applications before Wednesday. In the short ruling, the presiding judge said the three defendants were entitled to bail as they were presumed innocent having been granted administrative bail by the police.

The Judge granted bail to Senator Adeleke on the basis of self-recognition but gave a directive that he must always be present in court for his trial. In addition to this, the judge directed him to deposit his passport with the court registrar and he musn’t leave the country without the court’s permission.

The other two defendants were granted bail in the sum of 2 million naira each and with a surety who should be the owner of a landed property in Abuja. They were also required to deposit their passport with the court registrar.
