The Government has said it will ban any politician found to be involved in an election rigging. This they said will improve citizens’ democratic rights and reduce grand corruption in the country.
“We support visa ban on suspected election riggers. It would improve citizens’ democratic rights and reduce grand corruption in the country. Nigeria’s sovereignty doesn’t give politicians immunity for vote-buying, violence and vote-rigging. Sovereignty doesn’t mean impunity.
“Nigeria turns 60 in a few days. Authorities still can’t conduct free & fair elections. Vote-buying, violence & ‘big men’ have brought our electoral system to its knees. Citizens’ right to confer legitimacy on governments exists only on paper. Nigeria deserves better than this.”
