Serge Gnabry Reveals Father’s Refusal Against Joining Bayern As A Lad

Serge Gnabry hit the headlines after scoring four in North London against his former club main rivals, Tottenham.

However, the German revealed that his route to the Allianz arena wasn’t a straightforward one.

The former Arsenal man said he was initially refused joining Bayern Munich by his dad as a 10-year-old lad.

Following what many would describe as the greatest game of the 24-year-old’s career, Gnabry caught the attention of football lovers across Europe when he netted four in the Bavarians 7-2 mauling of Tottenham in their Champions League encounter.

The attacker said he initially had his dreams of playing for the German giants quashed but his father.

Oh man, I was very p*ssed off back then. I was angry and I cried. But my dad’s opinion was irreversible,” the German told Bild.

“Only when I was 12 years old was I allowed to join VfB Stuttgart. In the end I have to admit that his decisions have not turned out to be the worst ones.”

From German outfit Stuttgart, his impressive young career took him to North London with Arsenal, but he failed to make Wenger’s team at the Emirates Stadium or a loan spell where he was shipped to West Brom.

“You could knock me over with a feather having worked with him at West Brom and seen him there to what he’s done is absolutely amazing,” ex-Baggies manager Tony Pulis told Sky Sports.

“We took him on loan and we couldn’t ever get him fit – I think we even took him off in an Under-21 game.”

Thereafter, he went to the Bundesliga to play for Werder Bremen making immediate impact with 11 goals in 27 appearances in his debut campaign.

The Bavarians were quick to notice his potential and came for him the following year before loaning him immediately to Hoffenheim for one season.

Arriving at the Allianz Arena in the 2017/18 season, he has carved out a spot for himself replacing the ageing and now departed Arjen Robben.
