Soldiers Recover Ammunitions After Gunbattle in Benue

The soldiers killed the bandit on Friday after the bandits had attacked communities around Nagi-Ucheki-Audu-Enger-Adudu axis of Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

The Acting Director of Defence Information, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, in a press release disclosed that soldiers on patrol discovered one AK-47 rifle, two rifle magazines, 48 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition, one machete, one mobile phone and a bag of charms abandoned by the bandits after one of them had been taken down.

In a similar development, according to Colonel Nwachukwu, soldiers on patrol to Ikyoawe, Tsegumme, and Tsezongo communities destroyed the base of bandits after a serious gun battle. The bandits fled their base after being overpowered by the soldiers abandoning weapons used for their criminal activities and other items, including two rifle magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62 mm Special) ammunition and two mobile handsets.

Colonel Nwachukwu pleaded residents of the affected communities to be on the watch for and report anyone nursing gunshot wounds looking for medical attention.

He also called on the people of states affected by bandits operations to work closely with security agencies in order to restore peace in the terrorized communities.

“We equally appeal to the general public to support the security agencies with information that would be useful in detecting individuals and groups who are covertly engaging or supporting violent and criminal activities in their towns and communities,” the statement added
