SON Intercepts And Destroys N8m Worth of Substandard Products In Kano State

Substandard products worth about 8 Million Naria have been destroyed by the Standards Oragnisation of Nigeria (SON) at Yankatsari Yangongon in Kano state.

The destruction of the substandard products by SON is as a result of their present effort with the goal to halt trade in substandard goods in Nigeria.

The substandard and life endangering products which were destroyed contained the likes of 83 bags of 25kg of expired foreign rice, 257 bags of substandard mosquito coil, 190 cartons if fake Dorco brand of shaving sticks, 96 rolls of fake NOCACO electrical cables, 146 trays of substandard Automobile Break Fluid, 6 bags of line endangering fertilizers and also 7 vails of empty bags of rice.

The people who saw to the destruction of the substandard products worth eight million naria includes the SON Regional Coordinator North West, Alhaji Abba damu Bauchi as well as Kano/Jigawa State Coordinator, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammed.

The Kano/Jigawa state Coordinator, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammed, stated before the destruction of the substandard products that some patriotic and humble Nigerians which also included genuine and honest manufactures, consumers also helped them in discovering and confiscating the substandard products with the assistance of classified information.

He thanked the patriotic and honest Nigerians and manufacturers respectively on their cooperation and togetherness in achieving their aim and purpose of stopping the trade in substandard goods in Nigeria. He also thanked the security and also regulatory agencies in getting to know the whereabouts of the life-endangering and substandard products.

Alhaji Yunusa Muhammed also stated that important laboratory tests and analysis were done on the products in order for them to be sure and confirm the quality of the products if they are really life-endangering or not. The SON Act 14 of 2015 gave them the approval message they needed in order to carry out the destruction of the substandard and life-endangering products.
