Son To Take Part In Military Service He Was Previously Exempted From

Tottenham forward, Son Heung-Min is set to fulfill his military service during the Coronavirus lockdown. However, the South Korean asks fans not to visit him in the heat of the COVID-19 period.

The Lilywhites forward has urged his staunch supporters to respect coronavirus social distancing guidelines rather than join in the rush to greet him ahead of his impending military service.

Son will be taking part in a training scheduled for four weeks at a military camp in April. The camp will be inaccessible to members of the public as a part of stringent measures to contain the further spread of coronavirus.

With the Premier League suspended at the moment, it has now been collectively agreed that it is the proper time for the 27-year-old to serve a term he had previously been excused from.

Son was also quick to ask fans to stay away from the camp facility, insisting that social distancing guidelines should not be taken lightly.

A statement written on the 27-year-old’s Facebook page read:

“As large gatherings have been discouraged due to the Covid-19 virus and as we are working to comply with government policy, we will not be opening this event up to the public.

“This decision is being made to ensure the safety of the fans and reporters and to prevent any dangerous situations from arising.

“Thank you for your understanding. Heung-min Son looks forward to completing his military duty and doing his best at the training facility.”

The former Bayern Leverkusen winger was initially exempted from military service compulsory for all South Korean men under the age of 28 after championing South Korea to gold at the 2018 Asian games.

Before the suspension of the Premier League due to the coronavirus outbreak, Son was expected to miss the rest part of the current season after fracturing his arm.
