Stop ‘Vicious Persecution’ of Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia, Fani-Kayode Appeals to Buhari

– Fani-Kayode appeals to Buhari to interfere in  Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia’s case.

– The former minister describes the treatment of her case as sheer wickedness

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to stop what he described as ‘wholesale, vindictive and vicious persecution’ of dismissed judge, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday rearrested  Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia on Tuesday after Justice Oshodi at a court sitting stated that based on the judicial precedent set by the case of Justice Nganjiwa V. FRN, the High Court lacked jurisdiction to hear the suit as the EFCC “jumped the gun” in filing the first amended charge against the dismissed judge.

The EFCC, therefore, rearrested Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia to prefer a fresh criminal charge against her after her being dismissed from the bench by the National Judicial Council (NJC).

The anti-graft agency said the arrest was in line with the Lagos Division of Court of Appeal’s decision in a case involving Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa, where the court held that a judge could not be prosecuted until he or she had either been dismissed or compulsorily retired by the NJC.

Fani-Kayode, a staunch critic of the ruling administration took to his Twitter handle to lambaste the EFCC for putting her through trauma.

“EFCC’s case against Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia was thrown out by Justice Oshodi of the Ikeja High Court today with harsh words. Despite this, she was held hostage by the EFCC in the court premises for one hour and now she has been re-arrested and taken to their Lagos office.

“All this despite the fact that she is innocent of any wrongdoing, despite the fact that she is a lady, despite the fact that she has been subjected to and suffered immense trauma due to this case over two years and despite the fact that one of her legs is broken and in a cast,” he tweeted.

He further lamented that the treated meted out to the dismissed judge was a vicious one which he described as sheer wickedness.

“This is not justice: it is sheer wickedness. I appeal to President Buhari to put a stop to this wholesale, vindictive and vicious persecution and to call the EFCC to order. If we do not fear man we should at least fear God!”
