Tanko Muhammad gets three months extension as Acting CJN

– Justice Tanko Muhammad has gotten a three months extension as the Acting Chief Judge of Nigeria CJN following Walter Onnoghen’s saga

– The report made it known that the NJC has given their approval on the extension 

According to the latest report, President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the duration of Justice Tanko Muhammad as the acting Chief Judge of Nigeria CJN by three months.

The report which was made public by a spokesperson of the NJC, Soji Oye Today made it known that the supervisory body of the National Judicial Council NJC gave their approval to the extension on Thursday.

There had been reports that the NJC didn’t give it approval but the regulatory body in a statement said contrary to previous reports, “the Council actually met on Thursday 18th April, 2019 and at the 88th Meeting considered and approved the request of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, for the extension of the Appointment of Hon. Dr. Justice I. T. Muhammad, CFR, as the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria for another three (3) months and Council has since forwarded its approval to the President.”

This latest move by the presidency comes after Justice Tanko Muhammad was appointed as the acting Chief Judge of Nigeria CJN in January after the President suspended Walter Onnoghen based on an order from the Code of Conduct Tribunal CCT over false declaration of asset.

Walter Onnoghen, on the other hand, was convicted by the CCT on Thursday and has been ban from holding any public office in the country for 10 years.

However, another report has made it known that the convicted Walter Onnoghen intends to appeal the ruling of the Code of Conduct Tribunal CCT.

With this Tanko Muhammad remains the acting CJN for another three months.
