Renowned Linguist and Yoruba Actor, Adebayo Faleti Dead

World-renowned Yoruba linguist and actor, Adebayo has died on the 22nd July, 2017 at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. He died at the age of 86 years after a reported brief illness. Among some of his notable achievements is the supposed translation of the Nigerian national anthem from English to Yoruba language.

 

Heavy Rain Disrupts Lagos LG Polls

Heavy downpour of rain in some areas in Lagos mainland disrupted the Lagos Local Government council poll today. The rain which was more pronounced towards Apapa road and the Oyingbo axis cause4d delay in the accreditation of voters as poll officials did not resume on time. More so, it caused some difficulties in the transport of election materials.

 

APC Sweeps Lagos LG Polls

The All Progressives Congress on Saturday recorded landslide victory in the Lagos State Council Polls. The party won the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the state.  However, the election was largely disrupted by heavy rainfall in some parts of the mainland as well as poor voter turnout.

 

Mother, Daughter Die in Lagos Building Collapse

A woman simply identified as Mama Moyin has lost her life in the recent building collapse which occurred at Meiran in Lagos State. The incident which occurred in the early hours of Saturday just before the commencement of the LG polls resulted in huge casualty as officials of the Lagos State Emergency Response Unit and well-wishers thronged the site to rescue the victims.

 

Oyo Commits large percentage of Paris Club Refund to Recurrent Expenditure

The Oyo State Government has said that up to 60% of the N7.9bn it got as proceeds from the Paris Club refund will go into paying workers salary arrears as well as pension of retirees. This was made known by the Commissioner for Finance in the state, Mrs Abimbola Adekanmbi during a radio program in Ibadan which is the capital city.

 

Fire Guts Kuje Prison Clinic

There was panic on Friday as fire gutted a section of the Kuje Prison Clinic. Officials of the Nigeria Prisons Service battled for about 15 minutes until they were able to put out the fire. However, as of the time of filing this report, there was no confirmation as to the extent of damage or number of fatalities.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu has challenged conditions of the bail granted him on April 25 by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. Nnamdi Kanu who has been vocal since his release from prison has argued that he be granted rights to hold press interviews and attend rallies.
