Tottenham Rival Arsenal For William Saliba With Better Offer

Tottenham are looking to hijack a deal from their North London rivals, Arsenal for Saint-Etienne defender, William Saliba.

Saliba was reportedly close to signing a five-year deal with the Gunners with only a few details left to be sorted out, however, the Lilywhites have made a last-minute attempt at securing the services of the 18 year old by offering marginally better offer than that proposed by Arsenal.

Tottenham have offered the same transfer fee as their North London rivals but this time bettered the add-ons. Arsenal are however still confident that the France U-20 International will keep to his word and favor a move to the Emirates Stadium instead.

Both clubs are desperate for some fresh legs at the back with the prospect of Spurs losing Toby Alderweireld to Roma this summer still fresh.

The Gunners also fear that they might have to start the new campaign without their skipper, Laurent Koscielny who refused to go along with the squad for their pre-season tour in a bid to force a move to Bordeaux.

Tottenham have already secured the services of Tanguy Ndombele for a club record of £53.8m this summer while Arsenal still struggle to pull any weight in the transfer window.

If the deal for Saliba had gone through for Arsenal this summer however, Saliba would still be left to spend the coming season on loan at St. Etienne.

That said, the deal worth 30m euro (£27m) was to be paid in instalments and would not have had a big impact on Arsenal’s restricted £45m summer budget.
