Tottenham Star, Son Says He Doesn’t Crave Attention Like Messi Or Ronaldo

Son Heung-Min has become a fan’s favourite at Tottenham Hotspur but doesn’t always receives the praises and recognition many think he deserves.

However, the South Korean star has stated that he is happy with his “unsung hero” status with the Lilywhites. He insists that he doesn’t crave attention as much as the two most recognized stars in the last decade – Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Both superstars who play their trade in Barcelona and Juventus respectively, enjoy playing under the spotlights and have been recognized as the best in the world for about a decade running.

On the other hand, Son prefers to go about his business in more understated fashion. His talent might not be hailed all across Europe but is surely acknowledged by those who play alongside or against him in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old is now a key member of Maurico Pochettino’s team but doesn’t earn any close to players of his status.

The forward when quizzed by DAZN and Goal how he was affected by a lack of attention, he said:

“No, not at all. I’m not like Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. I can only do my best and try to help the team with it. If I can do that, I will be happy.”

That said, life in England’s top-flight hasn’t always been pretty for the Asian so much so that at some point in his debut 2015/16 campaign, he wondered if he had made the right choice of coming to the Premier League.

“The Premier League is different. I do not want to compare this with the Bundesliga, because the Bundesliga has great quality, but in the Premier League everything goes faster and is much more physical,” the South Korean star said.

“At the beginning I played and also scored some goals. Unfortunately, I injured myself and it was difficult to find a connection to the team again. I did not get any more games and wanted to go back to Germany because I felt very comfortable there. But the coach has always encouraged me. He was the right coach for me in this situation.”
