Tottenham vs Chelsea-EFL Cup January 8, Preview and Scores

Tottenham and Chelsea will lock horns for an EFL semi-finals tie on Hallowed turf on the 8th of January. A repeat fixture ended 3-1 in favour of the Lilywhites and they would be looking to record another win over Sarri’s side. iDONSABI takes a look at the odds of either sides coming out of this one unscathed.

Mauricio Pochettino has described it as a difficult draw and It will be a busy day at the office for both managers when they are pitted against each other in the double-legged tie first of which is at the Wembley.

Tottenham

The Lily whites coming into the season suffered several setbacks somewhat after failing to add any player to their ranks. Also, the inconsistency of the team have deprived them of a temporary lead over Manchester City in the log after losing by 3goals to Nuno Espirito Santos’s side. Be that as it may, Pochettino’s men were the first to hand Chelsea their first defeat of the season and will be gunning for that this time too. The Lilywhites will be coming off the back of an FA Cup tie with Tranmere where they won with a 7-goal margin. Spurs were firing on all cylinders sending Tranmere down the sewers with Fernando Llorente netting a hatrick. Other goal scorers were Serge Aurier who scored a brace with Harry Kane and Son grabbing the others.

The Spurs are however not oblivious of the stakes at this level. They are pitted against a 4th-placed Chelsea and not some Tranmere side. They however are the stronger side coming into this fixture and would be looking to make it three wins out of three against the West London Club. Here’s a look at Tottenham’s most recent run of form as far back as their win against Arsenal where they ran out 2-0 winners.

Chelsea

The London Blues ensured a comfortable win in their last game against Forrest in their FA Cup fixture. They will be looking to make two consecutive wins as the Club’s thirst for a silverware is on the rise. A win away from home will definitely put them on the front foot and one foot into the finals. Chelsea are in themselves no strangers to this competition as they have won 5 since its inception, bettered only by Liverpool’s 8.

Sarri will be willing to keep their frustration in front of goal behind them and withhold nothing here. They will be looking to take the game by the scruff of the neck and register a win or at the very least salvage a draw.
