Tough times for Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode as Lagos State House of Assembly Threatens Impeachment

– The Lagos State House of Assembly has threatened to impeach Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode

– The Legislative House stated that it has given the Governor a notice to appear before it within one week

The current Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode is in for a tough time with the legislative arm of Government in the state, the Lagos State House of Assembly.

According to the report, the Lagos State House of Assembly threatened to impeach the state Governor during a plenary yesterday.

The Legislative body disclosed that it has served Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode a notice to appear before it within one week to talk about the misappropriation of funds and the 2019 state Budget.

According to the House of Assembly, it accused Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of gross misconduct which includes spending from a budget that was yet to be approved by the law makers.

The report disclosed that out of the 34 lawmakers who were present at the plenary yesterday, 28 of them called for the immediate impeachment of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode while the remaining six told the governor to resign willingly.

From the outcome of the vote, it means the House of Assemble moved for the impeachment of the governor.

However, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa urged the Legislative arm to give Gov. Ambode the last chance to appear before it to explain the allegations and infractions charged against him.

With the General Election set to commence next week, Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode was denied the opportunity to contest for a second term by his political party, All Progressive Congress APC and in his place Babajide Sanwo-Olu was nomitated by the party to represent it in the Lagos State Governorship election slated for March, 2019.
