Tragedy: 10 Members of Civilian Joint Task Force Killed in Benue

Man-made calamity stuck in Benue yesterday when 10 members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) operating at Abaji area of Kastina Ala local government area of Benue State were gruesomely murdered by unknown gunmen.

It was gathered from residents of Abaji, were the incident happened, that the CJTF members were holding a meeting at Tse-Igber village in the community when some trigger-happy young men who rode on a motor-bike opened fire on them.

According to Daily Trust, 10 members of the Civilian Joint Task Force were killed on the spot while the eleventh person sustained serious injuries from the gunshots.

However, the Benue State police had pinned the number of the slain at nine. The spokesman for the Benue state police, Mr. Moses Joel Yamu, said the ugly incident happened at about 1:30pm yesterday.

Mr. Yamu said that three armed men rode on a Bajaj motorbike and opened gunfire on a group of CJTF holding an outdoor meeting, killing nine members of the group instantly.

Once again, as has become the custom of the police and Army Mr. Yamu, called on members of the public keep the peace and report any suspicious movement to the police. He also said that a detachment of policemen had been sent to the area to maintain law and order, while promising that the long arms of the law would soon catch up with the perpetrators.
